The City | Christchurch
Christchurch is the largest city in New Zealand’s South Island and is referred to as the ‘Garden City’ due to its stunning parks, gardens and tree-lined streets. Christchurch and the surrounding Canterbury Region is a hive of activity where, within two hours of the international airport, you could be bungee jumping, rafting, skiing, hot air ballooning, whale watching or sampling fine wine at the region’s world class wineries.
Christchurch is one of New Zealand’s most active sporting hubs and is renowned for its many sporting heroes and successful sports teams.
In 2018 we are proud to be holding a month-long Golden Oldies Celebration in Christchurch. For the first time ever all Golden Oldies Sports Festivals will be held in one city, over the course of the month. Over 35’s will partake in Netball, Cricket, Rugby, Golf, Softball, Football, Hockey, Basketball, Lawn Bowls and Squash.

Burnside Bowling Club
Established in 1963, the Burnside Bowling Club has a long history in hosting international and national events in Christchurch. Burnside boasts three 36.6m x 36.6m maniototo weed greens which are nurtured and developed by national award winning green keepers to a standard where several international players consider the club as having some of the best playing surfaces in the world! So much so, it has been selected to once again be the headquarters for the 2016 World Bowls Championships. Not only do the Burnside Bowling Club nurture their grounds, they also nurture their players. Burnside has been the home club for many New Zealand representatives including our very own
Fendalton Bowling Club
The Club nestles in the idyllic surrounds of Fendalton Park which is on the main thoroughfare from Christchurch International Airport to Christchurch City centre. A mixed club, for community and friendly competition as well as for the serious bowler. With two outdoor greens and an indoor area, bowling continues year round. All greens measure 36.6m x 36.6m and are surfaced in cotula-maniatoto, a basic water weed which originated in the colder climate of the South Otago Coast.
Bowls Papanui Inc is located in the picturesque five hectare Edgar MacIntosh Park in the North West suburb of Papanui. The two-green Bowls Papanui complex boasts a modern, comfortable clubhouse complete with a large, upstairs lounge with bar. A ground floor kitchen with a modern bar, dance floor and dining room facilities. Club members have won National titles in Pairs and Fours as well as numerous Canterbury Centre and interclub championships. Several players have represented Canterbury at inter-Centre level.
