We are delighted to introduce Gary Lawson as a 2018 Golden Oldies World Lawn Bowls Festival Ambassador.
11 times New Zealand champion and two times world champion bowler in pairs and fours at Christchurch in 2008, Gary Lawson is looking to roll it up in the 2018 Golden Oldies World Lawn Bowls Festival in his hometown and the scene of his 2008 success.
“I have had the privilege of playing more than 200 games for New Zealand and was delighted to be asked to be an Ambassador for Lawn Bowls. It is a good chance to be involved and also to give something back to the game which I’ve had so much enjoyment from.”
“Bowls gives people who don’t play the more traditional Golden Oldie sports like rugby, netball and hockey an opportunity to still compete in a fun yet competitive, but less physical sport.”
Lawson says he will put together a team of mates for the Festival who don’t usually play bowls and is looking forward to having a few laughs and enjoying the social side as well as a few games of bowls.
“The Festival is also a chance for people from outside Christchurch go visit the inner city of Christchurch and see just how much progress has been made. And of course no visit to the city is complete without a trip to the Christchurch Casino!”
