ANZAC Day - Wednesday 25th April 2018
ANZAC Day, an extremely important day in the calendars of Australians and New Zealanders falls on the 25th of April each year and is a day to honour our fallen and returning servicemen and women over a series of conflicts starting with World War One.
The 25th April marks the anniversary of the landing of New Zealand and Australian soldiers on Gallipoli Peninsula, Turkey, in 1915. Tragically, by the end of the Gallipoli campaign 130,000 men had died, including 2,779 New Zealand and 8,700 Australian soldiers.
The Christchurch Returned Services Association would like to extend an invitation to all Golden Oldies competitors and supporters to participate in the ANZAC Day, Dawn Parade and Service.
Members of the RSA are looking forward to welcoming Golden Oldies people from across the world to experience and enjoy a Kiwi ANZAC Day.
At 6.15am the ANZAC Day Dawn Parade begins with a march to the service that starts at 6.30am and will finish at approximately 7.30am.
Although traditionally a Veterans' Service, it is open to all serving military units, all emergency services, Cadet Force Units, community groups as well as members of the public who wish to march with the veterans or simply observe the parade and service.
The second main event of the day is the Christchurch Citizens' ANZAC Day Service. This is held at the Christchurch Transitional Cathedral and is managed by the Christchurch City Council and the Christchurch Memorial RSA - 10.00am to 11.00am.
All RSA premises in Christchurch will be open and offering food and refreshments.
Veterans and visitors are always welcome.
We recognize the importance of ANZAC Day to Australians and New Zealanders and wish to do all we can to assist all visitors to take part in the March and the Services and any other relevant activities prior to the Bowls and Rugby commencing at midday.
More details to come.
